Overall experience was good here. For 2 burgers, 2 sides of onion rings a milkshake and a soda the bill was around $30, which makes it a more expensive burger option, IMHO, but it's worth it. My burger was cooked perfectly, as was my partner's. The milkshake was the perfect consistency, not so thick that it would make your brain implode trying to suck it through a straw, but just thick enough. Service was prompt and courteous, they asked about my meal upon payment to see if everything was ok. I'll definitely be back.
We went to Dick's again tonight for probably the 4th time. I had the deluxe cheeseburger, onion rings and a root beer float. Hubby had large chili cheese fries and a chocolate milkshake. As usual the burger and onion rings were very good. My only complaint was that there was too much bun compared to patty but the delicious aioli on the bun made it so good that I ate the rest of it even though the patty was finished. I tried a bite of hubby's meal and it was ok. I'm not crazy about their fries and that's why I always get the rings but I must say if you like chili cheese fries and you want a large portion this one's for you...it was gigantic! Although I don't love the fries apparently you can get the aioli as a fry dip as well so that is enough to entice me into ordering them next time. It all came up to a little over $25 which I thought was quite reasonable. We will return for sure!
I've only been once but wasn't really thrilled with the hot dog, burger or fries. Everything was kind of dry and not super tasty. I've heard good things about the onion rings and ice cream (yeah those are two separate dishes) so I'll try them next time.
I finally got to try these and they sure are good but extremely greasy. I got them to go and they cost a smidge over $5 with tax. A huge quantity, easily enough for someone to eat as a meal.
They are super crispy, almost overcooked, and seem to be breaded with panko crumbs. There is a tasty saltiness to the batter reminiscent of A&W rings. However, unlike A&W, these ones don't fall apart while you're eating them.
I probably won't get them again, simply because I can't handle eating a pound of onion rings (I might be exaggerating there). They'd be perfect to share across 3 or 4 people for a tasty snack...
I agree, those onion rings ARE the best in Ottawa. If only I could persuade my partner to frequent Dick's more often... I just realised how dirty that sounds! I mean the restaurant damnit!
Crispy. Generous amount of onion in the batter. Remarkably cohesive -- these didn't fall apart at all, no onion sneaking out of its ring, nothing. Great batter. Etc, etc.
(Yes, I've had The Works'. Good. But these are better.)
Better than The Works! Close to Chez Lucien... very close. I had the Montreal burger recently - think I should probably get a Rx for Crestor or something - it contained a burger patty, bacon, cream cheese sauteed mushrooms and some aioli. Freakin' good. My burger was cooked medium, thus retaining some good beefy flavour. All in all, it was a taste sensation.
