Ottawa Foodies

I ordered from Vietnamese Kitchen on Friday. Overall, this is reasonable takeout food, but not the best Vietnamese food that I've ever eaten.

I had the tofu and vegetable soup (without the chicken broth), the fresh vegetarian rice paper rolls and the vegetarian's vermicelli. The soup was a bit bland with the lack of broth, but the greens in it were fresh and tasty. Unfortunately, the rice paper rolls got warm en route, but the flavours were quite nice. Finally, the vegetarian's vermicelli came with a spring roll, tofu, seasoned water chestnuts and the usuual veg. I got peanut sauce with it, and I was very happy with the flavours and textures. The spring roll was a bit on the oily side for my tastes.

On the whole, the food was good, but they definitely need to work on getting cold dishes delivered without heating them up. I will stick to warm dishes next time, and perhaps try dining at the restaurant.

I was itching for vietnamese takeout, and managed to find this place which delivered to me in Ottawa south.

I ordered rare pho and spring rolls, my lady friend ordered fresh shrimp rolls and hot and sour soup (this place is apparently a chinese/vietnamese restaurant)

My pho was good, I would order it again, but the spring rolls tasted like they were soaked in oil for way too long, the hot and sour soup had so much cornstarch in it that it was like glue, and the fresh shrimp rolls were hot from being so close to the other food and thus inedible.

I would order from here again, but I would just stick to the pho soup.

This restaurant has both Vietnamese and Chinese dishes and a huge selection of vegetarian dishes. The quality of the Chinese dishes is about average (you can do much better in Chinatown on Somerset) and same with the Vietnamese dishes. But if you're vegetarian, or some members of your party prefer Chinese and others Vietnamese, then this is the place to meet everyone's taste. The portions are generous and the prices are reasonable.
